New detached dwelling & seperate garage on the land of an existing house, St. Margaret’s Bay,

The scheme involved the creation of a new detached house to be able to accommodate the Client’s elderly family members who are less mobile, so accessibility was a key consideration throughout. The dwelling designed is a 3 bed property with two rooms in the roof space and dormer windows to the rear. The proposal was challenging, as it involved the dwelling being built on a downward slope, the diversion of a public sewer running through the site, the demolition of an existing garage, and to sit sensitively in the street scene to not restrict the views out to the AONB.

The natural timber materials in differingsizes and orientations, were carefully selected so that when viewed from the AONB ,the natural silvering effect of the timber will help the dwelling blend in with the surrounding wooded context.
