Village shop extension, Stelling Minnis, Kent

Stelling Minnis Stores wanted to extend their offering to the local residents and shop users in the area as well as providing an important community hub in a small village. A side extension and refresh of the store front looks to enhance the local context and reflect the feeling of a traditional village shop. The proposal introduces a traditional timber shop front and signboard, with the side extension provides much needed shop floor space as well as external frontage to display and sell additional produce.

With a new offering of hot food and drinks from the shop presented an opportunity to introduce tables and chairs to the front of the shop providing a great community asset to the village for customers and local residents to use. The new side extension to the shop would be comprised of a low-level red brick plinth wall with olive/sage timber cladding and slate roof. As well as additional shop floor space, a large extension to the rear provides more storage for produce as well as a single storey extension to the residential element of the building with a large open plan living, dining, and kitchen area.
